Modest Mondays {Week 4}

Good morning! Today’s Modest Monday post is about modesty while exercising. My sister in law and I go to the gym three times a week to work out. And I love to have cute workout clothes. It seriously encourages me to workout, even if I’m not at the gym. But finding cute but modest workout clothes can sometimes be hard. These are some of the clothes I like to wear. They keep me cool, modest, and they are feminine.

These capris are super comfy and cute. And the length is perfect for keeping you cool.

Modest Mondays- Week 3 {Guest Post}

Good morning, people! I hope you had a lovely weekend! I had my wisdom teeth taken out last Thursday, so my weekend was a tad rough. As promised….my guest post for this week’s Modest Mondays. I love my dear friend Hannah. She’s a sweet, godly, lovely example of a daughter serving at home. I’ve never seen her act- or dress – immodestly before. Here is her thoughts on modesty. Enjoy!

 

Modesty is a matter of the heart.

As women who have been bought by the blood of Jesus Christ, everything that we say, think, do, and wear must reflect the God that we serve. When we speak we reveal what is in our heart (Luke 6:45); when we choose what to wear we do the exact same thing.

So, what is the standard that we should use to determine what is modest and acceptable in the eyes of God? The standard is God’s very own, inerrant Word. But, does God really have guidelines for how we should dress? Absolutely! The Bible is full of instruction in righteousness, including modesty.

Lets look at a few passages of Scripture that address this issue, shall we?

“In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;

But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works“. 1 Timothy 2:9-10

God says that we should dress in modest apparel, with shamefacedness. First, He says that we should dress ourselves: this is an action. We should be putting effort into our appearance so that we will properly reflect the orderly God that we serve. Second, we are to dress with shamefacedness. This means that we are to dress ourselves moderately, with reserve and with respect (for ourselves and those around us). We should not try to push the limits, but instead dress in moderation so as to draw people to the LORD rather than to our bodies.

“Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;

But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.

For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands:

Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement“. 1 Peter 3:3-6

The Lord is not telling us that we are not to adorn ourselves in this passage, but that we are not to be excessive in adornments. Throughout the Scriptures there are examples of Godly women adorning themselves beautifully with clothing and jewels, but never in a self-promoting, flashy, or flirtatious manner.

“The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman’s garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the Lord thy God.”

Deuteronomy 22:5

Women are never to dress like men. This is stated very clearly in this passage. Women should actively seek to dress in a way that is distinctly feminine. Man and woman were made in the image of God to compliment one another perfectly, but they were made with clear distinctions that should not be blurred.

“And, behold, there met him a woman with the attire of an harlot, and subtil of heart“. Proverbs 7:10

Do you dress with wisdom or do you dress in the attire of a harlot? Are you wearing clothing that is just a little too low, a little too tight or a little too short (or all three)? Are you one of the women that men should be warned to flee from? Women of God should never dress in a way that is seductive or draws the eyes to places that are to be reserved for a husband’s eyes only.

“Unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them.” Genesis 3:21

Do you realize that dressing modestly is actually a picture of the Gospel? We are to cover ourselves, as Christ covers our sins through His precious blood. We are not to flaunt our nakedness, but cover it as becometh holiness. Are you sharing the gospel in the way that you dress?

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service“.

Romans 12:1

“Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?” 1 Corinthians 3:16

Who really owns your body? You or the God who created you? God has given us the task of governing our bodies, but they still belong to Him. They are His temples, His workmanship, and we must submit to the guidelines that He has given us on how to treat them and how to dress them appropriately.

Modesty is a heart issue. What kind of heart are you exemplifying? A proud, selfish, jealous, and sensual heart? Or a godly, humble, submissive heart?

Modest Mondays- Week 1

I am super exciting about starting my first series….Modest Mondays!

So, I want to start out with a question. What do you think of when you think of “modesty”? Do you think frumpy, plain and Amish looking? or do you think of a young lady or woman who is beautifully keeping herself for her husband (whether she already has one or not)? Did you realize you can still look young and beautiful while being modest? Actually, the men I know think modesty is beautiful. Immodesty gets you the wrong kind of attention….from the wrong kind of guys.

I usually wear skirts or dresses outside of the house, but I wear pants on occasion. Next time I will share some ways you can dress modestly in pants- without wearing baggy jeans!
