DIY Christmas Curtains

Almost 3 years ago I made all the curtains in our home. I had so much to do, so little time and lots of curtains to make, I definitely made a few mistakes. But I loved my curtains and so I’ve kept them up every.single.season in these 3 years {see them here, here and here}. I’m not replacing them anytime soon, but I just could not let them be up for Christmas again. I mean, seriously! Floral in December? No thank you.

I also didn’t like the price of already-made curtains. Ouch. So I decided I’d go get some fabric at Hobby Lobby and whip up some curtains for Christmas. Well, long story short, I was only half done with my errands when Little Man decided he wanted his nap early. I spotted the perfect design I wanted- as a tablecloth in Target. My mom once made me & her matching skirts and a dress for my sister out of sheets, I could make curtains out of a tablecloth, right? And the price….$15.99? I couldn’t have gotten 2 nice yards of fabric for that. And the best part? The width was the exact width I needed! It was meant to be. Now, I just had half a table cloth to use up.

So, after Little Man was down for his nap, I got to cutting. After starting to hem up and make the curtains, I realized I hadn’t sewn since I made curtains 3 years earlier! I couldn’t believe it. Now, I’m not going to tell you exactly how to make curtains- make them fit your windows! Since I used a tablecloth, I was able to only sew half of the seams since they were already half done.

So what did I decide to do with the other half of the cloth? I made up a valence for my kitchen window- and now they matched! I still had some more fabric, so I’m planning on making a big throw pillow to go with the curtains; but that’s a project for another day!

Speedy Peppermint Brownies

Y’all, just like fall means everything pumpkin, to me, winter time means everything peppermint! And even though winter doesn’t start for a few more weeks, it’s December now, so we can pretend, right?

speedy-peppermint-brownies

I love me a good, warm, chewy brownie. Brownies are so easy to whip up in a hurry, so it’s my favorite go-to thing to make for a pitch-in or party! And during the winter….I have to make them peppermint!

Speedy Peppermint Brownies

Ingredients:
2 cups sugar
1 3/4 cup flour (I’ll even add some whole wheat and no one notices)
1/2 cup cacao powder (if you use regular cocoa powder, scale back some of the sugar)
1 tsp. salt
5 eggs
1 cup unsweetened applesauce
1 tsp vanilla
5-10 drops of Young Living’s Peppermint Vitality oil
1 cup dark chocolate chips

Recipe:
In mixing bowl, combine first 8 ingredients & beat until smooth. Pour into greased 13×9 baking pan. Sprinkle chocolate chips (and Christmas sprinkles if desired!) over the top. Bale at 350 for 30 minutes or toothpick comes out clean. Let cool in pan for 10-15 mins and enjoy!

See how quick and easy that was? What’s your favorite dessert to make during the holidays?

{Simple & Easy} DIY Gift in a Jar

Happy Tuesday, y’all! If you are anything like me….you are still working on wrapping gifts and giving gifts. Yesterday I finished up my Christmas shopping and whipped up these easy DIY gifts!

Gift in a Jar

We have 3 neighbors that we absolutely love! They’re so sweet, helpful and wonderful to have around! I love making and sharing gifts, so I decided to whip up a big batch of my Healthy Trail Mix, put it in a decorated jar and give them away!

Gifts in a Jar- Easy

Instead of using dark chocolate chips, I used Christmas M&Ms to make it more festive. And Luke liked taking the extra trail mix to work!

Gift Ingredients

On the note I made a list of what was in the trail mix- just in case of any allergies I wasn’t aware of. We also wrote a little note. 🙂

Gifts in a Jar

I tied the notes onto the jars with some red ribbon and voila! You have some super easy and yummy gifts! I made these three (we had enough mix to make four) jars up in less than twenty minutes! Easy, peasy!

What’s your favorite gift to give to your neighbors? Are you still Christmas shopping?

Sincerely,
Hannah Diane

Hosting a Party {the healthy way!}

Happy Monday, all! I can’t believe it’s so close to Christmas! I don’t think I’m ready for Christmas to be over. Can we have an extra week or two? Please?

Healthy Girls

I mentioned on Friday I was having our annual girls’ Christmas party at my house this year- which means I was in charge of organizing snacks. And what do girls like to do? Eat food. Seriously. But with trying to stay on track with healthy eating this holiday season- I hosted a healthy party! Here are some of the things people brought.

Healthy Cheeses

Who doesn’t love a good cheese tray?

Healthy Coffee

I made regular coffee and the girls flavored it with half & half and essential oils instead of creamer.

Healthy Cookies

These gluten-free, healthy cookies made by my friend Hannah, were to-die-for good!

Healthy FoodWe also had healthy roll-ups and a selection of nuts.
Healthy Fruit Salad

Yummy, yummy fruit salad!

Healthy Veggies

A veggie plate with hummus. That was a huge hit!

Heathy Glutenfree CrackersWe had regular crackers, and gluten-free crackers. We have quite a few girls who need gluten-free foods. I am so thankful to be surrounded by girls who support you in your healthy eating and a GF diet!

What are your favorite healthy snacks for parties? Have you ever hosted a healthy party?

Scents of the Holiday Season

Happy Thursday! Who is enjoying this holiday season? I’ve been loving all the Christmas music, lights and smells! Not only do we have a live Christmas tree (major excitement over here, y’all!!), but I also have my diffuser going all the times with these wonderful combos!

Scents of Christmas

Why do I love using these oils and the diffuser? Because we get an amazing scent without all of the chemicals and junk in candles and room sprays.

Scents

These two oils are amazing. I love them by themselves or together. Christmas Spirit seriously smells like Christmas! Plus, who doesn’t like the scent of Peppermint during this time of the year?

Scents for Gatherings

Either JOY or Gathering are perfect for, well, gatherings. Especially if there is tension…just get one of these going and your house will smell amazing, and will help calm people.

Scents of Cleanliness

These are great if you are wanting your house to smell clean! And….Thieves is amazing for immune support!

Scents of Season

I am so thankful for my oils! Oils are not some “new fad”. They’ve been around since Bible times. What did Jesus get as gifts? Frankincense….Myrrh. Yeah, those are oils. I do not “put my trust” in the oils….my trust in Christ. But, God made these oils. Just open the Bible and read….you will find tons of oils in it. 🙂 I use what the good Lord has made and given us.

If you are interested in knowing more, you can ask or email me at hannah.d.mooney(at)gmail(dot)com. If you are ready to sign up— yay! I will send you a FREE reference guide to learn all about your oils for signing up with a premium starter kit. 🙂

DIY Plaid Trees

Happy Wednesday! How has your week been? Mine has been really good- I’ve been busy with lots of Christmas decorating and cooking. The weather has warmed up some, but it still feels like Christmas time!

Today I want to show you how I made the cutest mini Plaid Christmas Trees! They are super easy and so cute- the fit into our decor wonderfully!

DIY Plaid Trees

All you need is:
Scissors
Scrap plaid material (I used scraps from an old plaid shirt)
Foam shapes (found mine at Hobby Lobby in the floral section)
Hot glue gun & glue sticks

Do It Yourself Plaid TreesDirections:
Cut your fabric into strips- you don’t want these to be super long, but not super short, either. Mine were varied lengths. Sit down and just start gluing your strips around the shapes. As you can see I started with three foam pieces, but decided I only needed two where I was decorating (I will use the other foam shape in some other project). Ta-da! You are finished.

Wasn’t that easy? I can’t wait to show you how they look on my Christmas Mantel! What Christmas decorations are you working on?

Sincerely,
Hannah Diane
