How to have a {simple, tasteful & inexpensive} Wedding Reception

Happy Wednesday, all! I know I haven’t posted much….like, at all, but I hope that can change in the coming weeks! Today I want to share with you some tips, tricks and pictures from my simple (but, I think, gorgeous!) wedding reception.

Wdding Reception

First off, let me say that if you schedule your wedding when no one will expect a meal….no one will expect a meal. And that helps you out in the $$$ area quite a lot. Schedule your wedding around 1-3pm if possible. Too late for lunch, too early for supper.

Wedding Reception Donuts

We offered a little bit of a variety of things. We had fresh fruit, donuts, donut holes and scones. And, of course, cake!

Wedding Reception FoodMixing in different decorations in with the food also helps make it seem like there is more than there is. Mix in flowers, books, jars, lace, wood. Whatever fits your style. 🙂

Wedding Reception Flowers

We also used some hanging jars with flowers in them to give it an outdoorsy feel and help draw your attention upward, too.

Wedding Reception Beauty

I loved mixing textures of wood, lace, burlap, flowers and glass. It turned out quite lovely, if I do say so myself. 🙂

What did you serve at your reception? How did you decorate it?

Sincerely,
Hannah Diane

  1. These are cute ideas! I’m trying to plan my wedding on a budget right now, so I loved hearing how someone else did it. We are definitely planning to do a dessert bar, cakes are sooo expensive!

  2. These ideas are wonderful! The glass vases hanging from the ceiling looks so sweet, and I love the mix of flowers. I can’t wait to see more from your wedding 🙂

    thanks for linking-up with us!

  3. I’m in the midst of planning my wedding right now and I love your hanging decoration idea! My fiance wants to serve a dinner, so we are going to do that instead of snacks, but we’ve created a budget and are sticking to it so that costs don’t get out of hand.

  4. My mom made my wedding cake. It had three tiers, but it was a chocolate cake dripping with chocolate cream cheese frosting and covered with diced candy bars. She couldn’t believe I wanted such a non-traditional cake, but as a chocolate lover, I though that it was the most beautiful thing I’d ever seen.

  5. When we started planning our wedding we knew that food would be the most expensive, because we like to eat and wanted good food haha. We chose a menu that we loved and also made sure that we got to eat. It was a hit! I went to a wedding where they served and dessert bar and it was wonderful too.

  6. LOVE this!!! Yes!! My husband and I did our reception two weeks after our wedding, so that us and both families could wind down and relax after our whirlwind month-long engagement. It didn’t end up costing us a penny, because we had some super-sweet friends who paid for the venue as their wedding gift to us (and we got a discount anyway because I had volunteered at the reception center before) and then our families provided a potluck-style dinner and my adopted aunt made the cake! It was so perfect – no line, plenty of time to visit & dance. Your decorations look amazing. I’m so happy for you!!

  7. We had a very simple cake and punch wedding reception at church. I think our wedding was at 2:00 that afternoon so reception was roughly at 3:00. Simple and to the point! Sometimes I feel like weddings have gotten blown way too out of proportion! I know everyone loves a good time but I really enjoy the weddings that are simple, a celebration of love and then you’re done! Not so much of an all day commitment for your guests and no one spent a house down-payment (or more!) on one day!

  8. Weddings are beautiful, but some of my favorite parts of the day is walking into the reception. I just think this is where so much of the couple really shine through. Your reception was absolutely wonderful and had my most favorite food – DONUTS & DONUT HOLES. 🙂 For ours, we focused on all the meals that you always want to order at a restaurant but never do cause you’re trying to be good.
